Starting a Blog from India

Eating out quite often I realize nobody seems to care about mixing foods.  I used to hate if one item touched another item.  Contamination!  Here, I can order a spring roll, dosa, pizza, and something Chinese with ice cream!  Nobody would probably even blink.  Generally the food is quite good though, so I can't complain about the mixing of tastes that I would have never imagined possible.

In the states, a burger goes with fries.  Musically speaking - there is also a mix and match.  One does not think of Baroque music when they see a drum set.  One does not think of jazz when they see a viola de gamba.

Some things I am going to do here:
- Learn Mrudangam - Carnatic music...a tradition which has been tested and developed over centuries.

- Examine what's happening here as far as Western musical education and see what I can contribute.

- Dress in a fuzzy skunk costume and play ragtime xylophone.

- Try to stay out of jail

I wouldn't have thought that by coming to a place where the idea of humor and sarcasm is quite different that maybe it would all make sense.  In New York I find established scenes for each of the genres that I take part in.  There are ragtime musicians, orchestral musicians, Indian musicians.  It's hard to mix and match.  Here though, maybe because I'm just unaware of the appropriate matching of tastes,...it seems as anything goes.

I think this is going to be fun.

Anyone know a costume designer in Chennai?
